A Note from our Executive Director
We like to say that Herocare was created at our kitchen table, although we still argue about who actually came up with the name. After September 11th, my family often talked about the bravery and honor displayed that day and, like many Americans, wondered how we could do something significant for our community.
My wife and I were both in real estate and we often found ourselves helping friends and people from our church with real estate matters. We grew frustrated at how so many people were poorly treated by so called professionals in lending and real estate.
These favors grew into an idea, a big idea. We'd join together with other professionals we'd worked with in the past to create a platform where people could feel like they were going to be treated fairly, with respect, and with the utmost expertise. And, considering the current economy, our commitment to celebrate our treasured freedoms, and those who make this country great, we decided to create Herocare, a resource engine for essential service workers to achieve their goals of homeownership and financial freedom.
Now, so many years later, our idea has grown into an organization that serves 48 counties in 19 states across the United States. We've been humbled by the goodwill we find in our communities...the essential service members who give us suggestions and have much patience as we implement them, their employers who help us understand how we can most help, and the number and quality of professionals who want to participate and who bring their expertise and ingenuity to our group.
Herocare would not be here today, nor would it be as comprehensive, but for these essential service members, their employers, and the community professionals and businesses who support us. I extend a warm thank you to each and every person who has helped build this organization.
For me, Herocare is a cause. It’s about what makes America so great… we have a fantastic history of heroes in our country; and every day, hard-working people lend a hand and make a difference. Herocare is a salute to these daily, individual acts of service – great and small alike.
Yours truly,
Lane Houk
